TESTIMONIALS

JEWEL:

The exchange trip to Germany was a wonderful experience!  I got to make friendships with people across the world and was able to see what similarities and differences there were in their way of life.  My highlights of the trip were definitely exploring the cities, trying the wide variety of food, and spending time with my host family.  I navigated public transportation, went to flea markets, paddle boarded down a river, and more.  This trip gives you a chance to be as independent as you want.  You can roam the cities with a group of friends or stick to the larger group, and it even teaches you accountability and valuable life lessons as you travel.  While you get time to explore the cities, there are so many activities.  We visited many museums, saw famous landmarks, and learned about the country’s rich history while having fun.  It is planned so that every step of the way is enjoyable and there’s never a dull moment as long as you remember to make the moment count so you can look back on the wonderful memories made.

ELISE:

My time in Germany was a really worthwhile experience. Living there for a few weeks gave me the chance to adjust to a different way of life, pick up a bit of the language, and better understand a new culture. I got to see so many new places, meet new people, and step out of my comfort zone. It wasn’t always easy, with the language barrier and cultural differences but it was a great experience that I would for sure do again!

LAYLA:

"I had a really fun time being in Germany. Time flew by because I had the opportunity to connect with Mila, my wonderful host partner. One of my favorite parts about the trip was riding on the pedal boats with our host partners, and going to the botanical gardens afterwards. I also loved looking at the German architecture, (especially the beautiful statues) and learning more about the history of Germany and German citizens. Visiting the Volkswagen museum was also one of my favorite parts of the trip because looking at the displayed cars was really interesting. Mila’s family was so friendly and welcoming that they made me super comfortable while I was staying in Braunschweig. The German American Society did a great job pairing us up. The food was also delicious of course, especially the Spaghettieis."

JACOB:

"The foreign exchange program at the GAS is great. The experience is life changing, and you get to make friends with someone from Germany. There’s so many different customs and differences in culture that you’ll notice when traveling to Germany.  On the other hand, your exchange partner is in the same boat.

The annual trip to Germany creates a great community and a great opportunity to connect with other people. From what I’ve heard it’s a really cost effective way to get some insight on the way the world works on different continents. I would highly recommend learning some German before traveling so you can understand a bit of the language. In conclusion, the GAS exchange program is a great way to view different parts of the world.”
